Welcome to RE:SOUND, the 8th International Conference on the Histories of Media Arts 2019 - Aalborg, Denmark. RE:SOUND is part of the Media Arts Histories conference series, bringing together leading researchers, artists, and scientists on a series of interdisciplinary topics for over 14 years.

The RE:SOUND conference will take a specific interest on the theories, practices, histories, etc., of art and technology which are focusing on, concerned with, reflecting on, including, mobilising and/or working with sound as a main component or an integral part. RE:SOUND will host four days with 10 tracks of paper sessions, panels, workshops, practice-based interventions, exhibitions, performances, poster sessions, a PhD workshop and keynotes.

Dr. habil. Andreas Broeckmann is an art historian and curator who lives in Berlin. Since 2015 he has been engaged in the research and documentation project, Les Immateriaux Research. Currently Visiting Professor for Art History and Media Theory at the Academy of Fine Arts, HGB, Leipzig (2017–2019) and Private Lecturer at Leuphana University, Lüneburg, where he also co-directed a project about artistic research on anonymity (2015–2019), and the Leuphana Arts Program (2011-2016). He was a Visiting Professor at University of Oldenburg (2016–2017). He lead institutions and festivals, including the Dortmunder U - Centre for Art and Creativity (2009–2011), ISEA2010 RUHR – 16th International Symposium on Electronic Art (2010), transmediale - festival for art and digital culture berlin (2001–2007), and TESLA - Laboratory for Arts and Media, Berlin (2005–2007), and was a project manager at V2_Organisation Rotterdam (1995–2000). In 2007 he was co-chair of the "re:place 2007" conference in Berlin (together with Gunalan Nadarajan). Indepently curated exhibitions include projects at Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven, FACT Liverpool, Hartware Dortmund, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Media Art Biennal Seoul, Skuc Gallery in Ljubljana, at TENT/Witte de With in Rotterdam, and with Kontejner / MaMa in Zagreb. Broeckmann studied art history, sociology, and media studies in Germany and Britain. He holds a PhD in Art History from the University of East Anglia, Norwich/UK. He is the author of "Machine Art in the 20th Century" (MIT Press, 2016), and editor of "Place Studies in Art, Media, Science and Technology. Historical Investigations on the Sites and the Migration of Knowledge" (with Gunalan Nadarajan, Weimar 2009), and of "30 Years After Les Immatériaux" (with Yuk Hui, Lüneburg 2015).
