Welcome to RE:SOUND, the 8th International Conference on the Histories of Media Arts 2019 - Aalborg, Denmark. RE:SOUND is part of the Media Arts Histories conference series, bringing together leading researchers, artists, and scientists on a series of interdisciplinary topics for over 14 years.

The RE:SOUND conference will take a specific interest on the theories, practices, histories, etc., of art and technology which are focusing on, concerned with, reflecting on, including, mobilising and/or working with sound as a main component or an integral part. RE:SOUND will host four days with 10 tracks of paper sessions, panels, workshops, practice-based interventions, exhibitions, performances, poster sessions, a PhD workshop and keynotes.

Oliver Grau is Chair Professor for Image Science and head of the Department at Danube University Krems, Austria. Grau is founder and head of the Media Art Histories conference board. The first Media Art Histories conference was held in Banff, Canada, in 2005. Further conferences were organised in Berlin (2007), Melbourne (2009), Liverpool (2011), Riga (2013), Montreal (2015), and Krems, Göttweig and Vienna (2017). His book Virtual Art. From Illusion to Immersion (MIT Press 2003) became the most quoted art history monograph since 2000 (H-Index), further volumes are MediaArtHistories (MIT-Press 2007), Imagery in the 21st Century (MIT-Press 2011), and more recently Museum & Archive on the Move (De Gruyter 2017). He has conceived new scientific tools for image science and developed the first international Archive for Digital Art (ADA, since 1999).  In 2015 he was elected into the Academia Europaea.
