Yvon Bonenfant

University College Cork
Head of Dept., Theatre
Yvon Bonenfant, PhD is interested in all the things voices do that we don’t usually let them do. He makes art and theorises from these kinds of voices, often in collaborative teams. Since 2012, he has largely focused on inviting audiences to experience their voices in new ways: he works to invent interactive theatres of the extra-normal voice. His ongoing projects include Resonant Tails for children with profound and multiple learning disability; Wig Show, a co-production with Swedish dance company Other Birds, exploring the voice-as-(fake)-hair; and fashion styling collaboration Fashioning the Voice. His most recent publication is an edited special edition of the Journal of Interdisciplinary Voice Studies (3:2) entitled Voice, Identity Contact. Funders of his work have included the Wellcome Trust, Arts Council England, the Irish Research Council, Youth Music and many others. He is head of the Dept. of Theatre at University College Cork.
